Hero Raj Tarun’s latest film ‘Purushothamudu’ was released in cinemas today amid a low buzz. Popular music composer Gopi Sundar and veteran editor Marthand K Venkatesh are part of the film’s technical crew. Check out our review to know how the movie fares.

Story:

Ram (Raj Tarun) returns to India after completing his studies in London. His father (Murali Sharma) decides to make Ram the CEO of their company. However, Vasu (Ramya Krishna), who owns fifty percent shares in the company, disagrees with his proposal. In order to become the CEO, Ram agrees to the condition of quitting his luxurious life and living like a common man for 100 days. The twists and turns in Ram’s life thereafter, Ammulu’s (Hasini Sudheer) entry into his life, and whether or not Ram becomes the CEO form the rest of the story.

Plus Points:

The elevation scenes, action scenes, and interval sequence in the life of a rich kid becoming a real-life hero are well executed. Along with entertainment, some emotional elements impress in this family drama. Raj Tarun comes up with a decent act. His body language and performance in action sequences are impressive. His performance in some crucial scenes is a highlight of the movie.

Heroine Hasini Sudheer entertains audiences with her glamor. Her performance in the romantic scenes is good. Veteran actress Ramya Krishna does justice to the crucial role she portrayed. Seasoned character artistes Murali Sharma and Prakash Raj, especially in the climax episode, performed quite well. Brahmanandam, as always, tickles the audience’s funny bones with his mannerisms and comedic timing.

Minus Points:

Even though there’s enough content in Purushothamudu’s story, the film underscores due to the weak screenplay penned by Ram Bhimana. Stories like these require nail-biting drama and entertainment. But the interesting elements that worked in the first half go missing in the latter half, and the graph goes downhill.

The melodramatic scenes that tried to show the protagonist’s rise don’t work. The scenes featuring a farmer are too simplistic, and the scenes that follow lack logic and the believeability factor. The love track between the lead couple lacks depth. After handling the first half decently with entertainment, the director couldn’t succeed in repeating it in the second half.

Technical Aspects:

The film scores well on the technical front. Music composer Gopi Sundar walks away with brownie points for his engaging soundtrack. PG Vinda’s cinematography is yet another key highlight of the movie. Senior editor Marthand K Venkatesh holds the film’s narrative well with his cuts and pacing. Producers Dr. Ramesh Tejawat and Prakash Tejawat ensured the film looked splendid with decent production values.

Verdict:

Purushothamudu’s core concept, the comedy and action sequences are executed well. However, the lackluster treatment, the weak characterization of the protagonist, and the underwhelming second half affect the film’s chances to a great extent. The performances of Raj Tarun, Ramya Krishna, Prakash Raj, and Murali Sharma standout as the main highlights. However, the film fails to engage on the whole. Keep your expectations in check while watching this half-baked family drama.
