Throughout the film’s promotions, the makers of ‘Laggam’ have been confident that the film will impress the audience with its emotional content and rural Telangana backdrop. Starring young actors Sai Ronak and Pragya Nagra in lead roles, the film has released in cinemas today. Check out our review to see if it manages to match the expectations set by its makers.

Story:

Rajendra Prasad wants to get his daughter Manasa (Pragya Nagra) married to his nephew Chaitanya (Sai Ronak), who works as a software engineer in Hyderabad. He talks to his sister (Rohini) and gets her approval for the alliance. The arrangements for the wedding begin, but unexpectedly, the wedding is called off. Why did the wedding get cancelled? Who is the reason behind this? Did Manasa really agree to marry Chaitanya? Will they get married in the end? You have to watch the movie on the big screen to know the answers.

Plus Points:

Laggam manages to impress to an extent with its rooted story set in attention Telangana milieu. The rich culture and traditions of Telangana are introduced to the audience once again. The film’s story is laced with good emotions, and they make the movie interesting. Although the actors do not hail from Telangana, they impress us with their realistic accent.

Sai Ronak has done a good job and impresses with his performance in the emotional scenes. Senior character artiste Rohini is good as always. Popular comedians Raghubabu, Saptagiri, and Racha Ravi succeed in entertaining audiences. The background score by Mani Sharma adds depth to this emotional drama. The mass song that appears in the second half and the emotional song in the climax are quite impressive. A tragic scene in the second half and the performance of the lead actors in the climax will thoroughly impress the audience.

Minus Points:

Despite having emotional content at its core, the film suffers due to its slow-paced narrative. Most of the scenes in the first half run on a flat note and fail to engage the audience. Adding to this, the lack of interesting elements and catchy songs hampered the first half to a great extent. The actors don’t have much scope for performance in the first half

While Laggam’s story enters serious mode in the second half, the audience feels as if the movie is stretched due to the unnecessary comedic scenes. Even the veteran artistes appear to be forcefully uttering their dialogues. The second half totally focuses on the emotional drama, and the action goes missing.

Technical Aspects:

While the story penned by the director is good on paper, more care should have been taken in its execution. The screenplay in the first half was quite slow, as the focus was centered around the emotional drama. The film’s chances are marred by the weak screenplay. While two songs composed by Charan Arjun are impressive, the background score by Mani Sharma drives the emotional drama. Bal Reddy’s cinematography is good, as his lens colorfully captures the rural atmosphere. Enough care should have been taken in the editing department, as certain scenes feel unnecessary. The production values by the producers are good, though.

Verdict:

With an interesting and rooted title like ‘Laggam’, the film offers a promising rural drama set against the backdrop of rural Telangana. While the core idea is good, the way it has been executed is quite underwhelming. The snail-paced screenplay and lack of catchy songs are the main drawbacks of the movie. On the whole, audiences who enjoy emotional dramas may find Laggam appealing to an extent.
