Sree Vishnu has been doing very interesting films in the last few years and Swag is his latest release which has been directed by Hasith Goli. Featuring Meera Jasmine and Ritu Varma in key roles, the film has hit the screens today. Let’s see how it is.

Story

Bhavabhuti(Sree Vishnu) is a crazy cop who retires from service. One fine day, he gets a letter stating that he is the legal heir of the Swaganika dynasty and can inherit all its ancestral property. Excited with this news, he reaches the royal family to only know that there are three others from the same family to claim the property. The twist in the tale is that two among the three who have come to claim the property are lookalikes. Who is the actual heir and what is the back story. To know the answers, watch the film on the big screens.

Plus Points

Sree Vishnu plays five roles and is superb in multiple roles. The way he moulded the body language for each of the characters is showcased so well by Sree Vishnu. But Sree Vishnu’s performance as Vibhuti is the best and brings tears in the climax. Ritu Varma gets a meaty role and brings a lot of depth to the film.

Meera Jasmine gets a very good character in Swag and performs so well in her character. Daksha Nagarkar is decent in her role and so was Sunil. Goparaju Ramana is impressive in his key role. The story of Swag is quite impressive and has good twists at regular intervals.

There is a very strong message in the second half which has been executed in a solid manner and makes us emotional. The way the confusion related to the legal heir is handled well in the last twenty minutes of the film.

One of the biggest assets of the film is the production design. The royal era is showcased well and takes the audience to a new world altogether. The usage of poros and the manner in which each character is introduced in the first half is quite good.

Minus Points

Swag has a very novel concept but is narrated in a very confusing manner. As there are too many characters that are to be introduced, director Hasith Goli takes a lot of time to come to the point. Also, the story is not that clear and leaves the audience in a lot of doubts by the interval point.

There are also a few logical errors in the film. The characters of Meera Jasmine and Daksha Nagarkar are showcased in the bygone era and have no clue what they do during that time. Also, the pace of the film is quite slow. Though there are not many bad moments, the narrative is jaded and takes a lot of time to unleash the actual twist.

The film’s runtime is also an issue. One gets a feeling that there was no need to confuse the audience so much. A good story with a simple narrative could have been executed with an engaging screenplay but that does not happen as the kick in the proceedings is missing in the mid portions of the film.

Technical Aspects

Vivek Sagar has composed the music and it is quite ordinary. But the background score is decent and elevated the film well. The set work, props used, and the dialogues are quite impressive. The camera work is also good and showcased the bygone era quite beautifully. As said earlier, the screenplay is disappointing.

Coming to the director Hasith Goli, he has succeeded as a writer as the story of Swag is new age and has so much scope for masala and drama. But sadly, he did not make proper use of it and this is due to the narrative style he has chosen. Had he narrated the film in a very simple and fun manner, the output would have been a lot better. Too many characters and confusion limit the enjoyable factor in the film.

Verdict

On the whole, Swag has a very good story and great performances, But it takes time for one to understand the actual concept due to a dull screenplay. Give this film a shot for Sree Vishnu’s sincere performance and keep your expectations in check.
